Santa Claus may be Coming to a Mailbox Near You

The Parks and Recreation Department's annual Letters From Santa program sends personalized letters to Rosemount children.

Santa Claus isn’t coming to town until Dec. 24, but several Rosemount children can expect a letter from him in the coming weeks, courtesy of the Rosemount Parks and Recreation Department.

The department’s annual Letters From Santa program has been going strong for several years. Interested parents fill out a form with information about their child, and a letter tailored to the child’s interests and experiences will arrive at his or her house during the weeks before Christmas.

“I’m just imaging that when they get it in the mailbox that they come together and read the letter together as a family,” said Lisa Maurer, recreation supervisor for the Parks and Recreation Department.

Letters are currently being sent out. Parents interested in participating must have their forms submitted to either or the by Dec. 14.

Last year the department mailed over 100 letters. The letters discuss important holiday topics, such as Christmas gifts and Santa’s daily life. They also touch on the recipient’s recent accomplishments and good behavior, encouraging him or her to keep up the good work.

Tina Schwantes, receptionist for the Parks and Recreation Department, is the woman behind the letters. Schwantes discussed the significance of her role as Santa’s ghostwriter.

“I have four kids myself, so I know they get excited about it,” said Schwantes. “It’s kind of a highlight for them to hear from Santa.”
