Apple Valley Attorney Selected to Fill District 196 School Board Vacancy

Eagan resident Gary Huusko was selected Thursday night from seven applicants to fill Kevin Sampers' seat.

Apple Valley attorney and Eagan resident Gary Huusko was selected Thursday night to fill the seat of Kevin Sampers on the District 196 school board.

Huusko who had applied and interviewed with the school board Thursday evening.

Huusko has been a practicing attorney since 1983 and is currently an associate at in Apple Valley. Huusko is listed as practicing in the areas of intellectual property, business and commercial law, and employment law.

Huusko has served on the district’s budget advisory council since 2004, and acted as that council’s co-chairman in 2008-2009, according to his professional bio. Huusko has also served on the board of directors for the District 196 Foundation since 2008 as board chair.

Huusko’s other current affiliations include the Eagan Rotary Club, Dakota County Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Eagan Citizens’ Crime Prevention Association, among others.

Huusko also has served as a youth coach for track, girls softball, boys basketball and boys baseball for the Eagan Athletic Association.

Sampers to concentrate on his business. Huusko will serve the remainder of Sampers’ elected term, which runs through Jan. 6, 2014.

Huusko will be sworn in to his school board role at the board's Nov. 14 meeting.
