Five Things You Should Know Today: August 22

Enjoy the weather today, because more rain is in store tonight.

  1. Today will be a picture-perfect summer day, according to the National Weather Service: a high near 81 and calm winds becoming light and southerly. The story will be different tonight, with a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms and the possibility of a quarter-of-an-inch of rain, mainly after 1 a.m.
  2. The Rosemount Parks and Recreation Commission meets at 7 tonight in Rosemount City Hall. On the agenda: further discussion of the UMore ball fields, signs at Carroll’s Woods and advertising at recreation facilities. The public is welcome to attend.
  3. Today’s the day that class lists will be posted at Rosemount Elementary School. Classroom assignment letters for students at Parkview Elementary School will arrive in mailboxes today, too.
  4. The Minnesota State Fair opens on Thursday, so you’ve got just three more days to get your advance tickets, along with a Blue Ribbon Bargain Book and discounted ride tickets, at Twin Cities Cub Foods locations – including Rosemount. Advance admission is $9, compared to $12 at the gate for adults and $10 for seniors and children ages 5 through 12. You can save enough on a ticket to buy a bag of mini-doughnuts.
  5. Today is National Be an Angel Day, so be angelic in whatever way you choose. (Pick up someone else’s trash, let someone in front of you in traffic, hold a door open for someone at the post office. It’s easy.)
