Photos, Video: MN Supreme Court Justice, Football Hall of Famer Visits Eastview

Alan Page, who has served on the Minnesota Supreme Court since 1992 and played in the NFL from 1967 to 1981, took questions from Eastview High School's Real Men Read book club members.

It's not the destination that matters, but the journey.

Though it's been said before, that was one piece of wisdom Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Alan Page bestowed upon students in Real Men Read book club on Friday. Club members recently read Page's biography, "All Rise: The Remarkable Journey of Alan Page."

Page has sat on the state's Supreme Court since 1992. He's a member of the National Football Hall of Fame who played with the Minnesota Vikings from 1967-1978, and simultaneously attended law school at the University of Minnesota. He played with the Chicago Bears from 1978 to 1981.

At Friday's book club discussion, Page gave his perspectives on topics ranging from a National Football League lockout to how his experiences in football influenced his time as a judge.

He emphasized "learning for the sake of learning," and talked about learning life lessons in addition to academic ones.

"I've come to the conclusion that you learn more from losing than you do from winning," Page said.
