Your Guide to Voting, Election Day in Apple Valley

Where do I vote? When can I vote? What am I voting for? We make sure you're ready to get out there and mark your ballot.

The fall 2011 general election is coming up on Tuesday, Nov. 8. Here's what you need to know:

What Am I Voting For?

If you are an Apple Valley resident, the only race on your ballot will be for the Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan school district board of education.

There are four seats up for grabs in the general election, with seven candidates—four incumbents and three newcomers—in the running. You'll vote for up to four of the seven candidates.

When Do I Vote?

At the polls: From 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8

Absentee voting in person or by mail still is open prior to election day if:

  • you will not be in your home precinct on election day
  • you have an illness or disability that prevents you from voting on election day
  • you will be observing a religious holiday on election day
  • you are an election judge in another precinct
  • the governor declares an eligible emergency
  • the state or federal government declares a quarantine

Absentee ballots that are mailed to the school district or to Dakota County must be received by election day.

Where Do I Vote?

The Minnesota Secretary of State's online poll finder allows residents to type in their home address to search for their polling place—probably the easiest way to find out where you vote.

Or here, and attached to this article, is a color map of the precincts for Independent School District 196 voters if you want to determine by map which school district precinct you live within.

Also attached is a chart with the list of school district precinct numbers, which correspond to the map. The chart provides a description of the boundaries of each precinct, as well as the location of the polling place within each precinct.

Absentee voting can be done prior to the election during service hours at any Dakota County service center, including the in Apple Valley.

Absentee voting also can be done at the in Rosemount, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday.

You'll have to fill out an application and then a ballot. Absentee ballot applications also are available online through the school district website or the Dakota County website.
