Apple Valley's Kelsey Harms Named Athena Award Winner

Harms has played volleyball and pole vaulted for the Eagles.

senior Kelsey Harms has been named the school's 2012 Athena Award winner.

The Athena Award recognizes an outstanding senior female athlete at a high school. Harms will be recognized at the St. Paul Area Athena Awards banquet April 18 at the Prom Center in Oakdale.

Harms is the daughter of Brent and Catherine Harms, and a two-sport athlete—in volleyball and track and field—at Apple Valley.

She was a four-time letter winner, three-year varsity starter and earned all-conference honorable mentions in 2010 and 2011. She was the teams' defensive MVP and was selected to the Academic All-State team. 

In track and field, Harms competes in the pole vault, and was named all-conference and academic all-conference in the sport in 2010 and 2011.

She placed 11th in pole vault at the 2011 state track and field meet and was also all-academic state for track and field. She'll be a team captain for 2012.

Harms' has a 3.89 grade-point average, and also was selected for the all-state band in 2011 and 2012.

She also participates in student council, German Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and National Honor Society.

She plans to attend Gustavus Adolphus College this fall.
