Eastview Baseball Blanked In Section Final Against Burnsville

Burnsville one-hit the Lightning in Eastview's 10-0 loss on Tuesday.

The Eastview High School baseball team took second to Burnsville in the South Suburban Conference baseball standings this season, and now is the runner-up to the Blaze in the Section 3AAA tournament after a 10-0 loss in the championship round on Tuesday night.

"It's hard to finish second to them again," Lightning coach Tom Strey said. "Burnsville is having an outstanding season and the credit goes to them."

Alec DesLaurier-Knop was the only Eastview player to reach base, after claiming a single with two outs in the first inning as Burnsville pitcher Brian Vanderwoude recorded the next 13 outs in order to earn the shutout.

Lightning starting pitcher Ty McDevitt took the loss after being chased from the mound in the midst of the Blaze's five-run third inning, before Austin Lindquist and Adam Moorse came on in relief.

"We got off to a bad start and couldn't recover," Strey said.

Eastview rebounded to reach the title game after losing 5-3 to St. Thomas Academy in the opening round of the sectional Final Four on Friday, then rebounded to defeat Eagan (8-4) and the Cadets (8-1) in back-to-back elimination games on Saturday to reach the title stage.

"We had a very good year," Strey said. "I wish we were just a little better tonight, but I do feel that we had a very good season."

The Lightning conclude the spring with a 17-7 record.
