Eastview Legion Baseball Advances In Gopher Classic
The Thunder must win twice on Tuesday to stay alive; Apple Valley took second in pool play over the weekend.
The Eastview American Legion baseball team stormed through the Gopher Classic’s pool play over the weekend and earned a spot in Monday’s round of 16.
The Thunder went 5-0 at Bloomington’s Red Haddox Field, winning the Bloomington pool. They will play Manitoba, Canada, at noon Monday at Red Haddox Field. If they win, the Thunder will play at 2:30 p.m. with a chance to advance to Tuesday’s semifinals at Minnetonka’s Veterans Field.

On Saturday, the Thunder defeated Gillette, WY, 8-0 before beating Plymouth, IN, 10-1. That set up Sunday’s final game against Sartell, which Eastview won 11-3.
Tuesday’s semifinal rounds are at 9:30 a.m. and noon in Minnetonka, and the championship game is at 2:30 p.m.

Apple Valley takes second place
The Apple Valley American Legion baseball team took second place in the Apple Valley pool on Sunday, but their overall record did not qualify to advance to the round of 16 on Monday.
The 76ers finished out pool play with an 11-10 win over Mitchell, SD, in the final game on Sunday night. The win gave Apple Valley a 3-2 record in pool play, edging Bemidji for the second place spot thanks to winning a head-to-head matchup on Saturday.
Mankato won the pool with a 3-2 record and will face Osseo on Monday in Bloomington.
