Eastview Legion Baseball 2 Wins Away From Tourney Title

The Thunder are among four teams remaining in the largest Legion baseball tournament in the country

Eastview’s dream tournament run is still alive.

The Thunder’s American Legion baseball team won twice on Monday in the Gopher Classic’s championship rounds. Eastview defeated Manitoba, Canada, 9-1 in the round of 16 and followed it up with a 13-2 victory over Mankato in the quarterfinals at Red Haddox Field in Bloomington.

The victories set up a meeting with Eden Prairie at 9 a.m. on Tuesday at Veterans Field in Minnetonka. Should Eastview win, the Thunder would face either Tri-City Red (New Brighton) or Coon Rapids in the championship game at 2 p.m.

The tournament featured teams from across the United States and Canada, but all four teams remaining are from Minnesota. This will be the first time since 2008 that a Minnesota-based team will win the Gopher Classic, when Richfield took home the title. Napoleon, OH, won the tournament in 2009 and 2010 but did not compete this year.
