Section 3AA girls soccer rivals Eagan and Rosemount battle one another in the final game of the regular season at Wildcat Stadium. While Eagan is ranked seventh, the Irish entered this week with an identical South Suburban Conference record of 4-2-1.
With two games remaining, Eagan was 11-2-1 overall, Rosemount was 10-3-1.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Hannah Halterman entered the week all-but assured of claiming Rosemount’s season scoring crown, logging nine goals with two games left. Madeline Phillips, Kaylie Hanson and Jana Elliott all entered the week with four goals apiece.
Marissa Ganske led Eagan with seven goals and 11 overall points at the end of September, with Roselyn Anderson beginning October with five goals; goalkeeper Kristen Knutson has 11 shutouts with two games remaining in the pre-playoff schedule.
WHO WILL WIN:
Statistically, this one looks very even. Both teams are similar in both record and goals scored—Eagan has averaged 2.9 scores per game, Rosemount 2.6. However, there’s a big difference in goals allowed as the Wildcats surrender a conference-best 0.2 per game while the Irish allow an average of 1.1.
That said, this one could come down to Knutson in the Eagan nets. If a team can’t score, it can’t win, with Rosemount facing a daunting task in trying to boot a ball past the Wildcats goalie who has stopped 63 of 66 shots through 14 games.
