The city of Apple Valley will host three Section 3AA opener soccer games on Tuesday night, with the No. 4 seed AVHS boys taking on at Johnny Cake Ridge Park as the No. 2 seed Eastview girls play the Warriors at 5 p.m., before the top-seeded Lightning boys welcome Hastings to EVHS at 7 p.m.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Paris Sanders led the Eastview girls with nine regular-season goals, followed by Leah Nesheim and Taryn MacMillan with eight apiece.
The Lightning’s Mathew Gweh is tops in the metropolitan area with 21 goals so far this autumn, while No. 1-ranked Eastview goalkeeping tandem of Sam Ruelas and Treston Kederer had four shutouts apiece in the regular season.
Connor Flanagan and Mitchell Dawson were among the scoring leaders for the Eagles in pre-playoff matchups.
WHO WILL WIN:
All three teams are presumptive favorites on their home fields against nonconference competition, with the unpredictable Apple Valley boys facing the toughest test against Henry Sibley. The Warriors are 10-4 this season to the Eagles’ 10-5-1 record.
