Wrestling Champ Mark Hall Likely Won't Be at Apple Valley High School This Year

Hall would have been a freshman at AVHS, and already had won two individual state wrestling championships as a seventh and eighth grader.

Would-be freshman Mark Hall—who won two individual state wrestling championships as a seventh and eighth grader, and helped Apple Valley wrestling to two team state titles in those years—likely won't be a student or wrestler at AVHS this fall, he told Apple Valley-Rosemount Patch via Twitter on Tuesday.

The Pioneer Press reported on Tuesday that "a person with knowledge of the situation" said Hall wasn't enrolled at AVHS. Hall told via Twitter on Tuesday that he's in Michigan with his family now, and likely will attend school there.

Hall told Patch via Twitter:

"I am very happy with the level apple valley wrestling brought me too [sic] and I couldn't ask for better treatment than what they gave me and I'm glad I could be around such great people."

Hall was positioned to make a run at six individual state wrestling titles over six years, had he stayed in Minnesota; he would've been the first Minnesota high school wrestler to do so, according to the Pioneer Press. He began training at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO, in the spring, the newspaper's story says.

Hall's former Apple Valley teammate, Destin McCauley, won five individual state titles while at AVHS, and went on after earning his last high school title to train at the Olympic training facility. He's also an Iowa State wrestling recruit.

The Apple Valley wrestling program also experienced a coaching change recently; longtime Apple Valley wrestling coach Jim Jackson, who was with the program for 32 years, .

, who has been with the program as an assistant for 12 years and has coached wrestling for 30.
