Rosemount's Girls Hockey Season Comes To A Close

Irish rally from 2-0 deficit, but fall 3-2 on a short-handed goal in the closing minutes to Lakeville South in state consolation semifinals.

A short-handed goal with just over two minutes remaining in the third period spoiled a spirited rally and ended the Rosemount girls hockey team's season in a 3-2 loss to Lakeville South in the state Class AA tournament consolation semifinals on Friday morning at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis.

The Irish went down, 2-0, in the first period after giving up a pair of power-play goals to the Cougars, but battled back with a pair of tallies from Amanda Comstock and Allison Micheletti on the man advantage to knot the count at 2-2 late in the second period.

Both teams had their chances in the third period, but it was not until Reid intercepted a pass in the Rosemount end and skated the length of the rink to beat Irish goaltender Caitlin Dantzcher with the game-winner at 14:55 of the third period that the game was decided.

Dantzcher had kept her team in the game with several splendid saves throughout the morning, making 32 saves in all for the contest.

The final defeat wrapped up the Irish's 2010-11 campaign with a 22-7-1 record.
