Sports Roundup: Rosemount Girls Soccer, Tennis Advance In Sectionals

Irish boys soccer eliminated in playoff opener on Tuesday.

The postseason carried on for a pair of Rosemount teams on Tuesday, but not for another as a week full of postseason implications hit the mid-way point. The Irish volleyball and girls swim/dive squads also drew nearer to the end of the regular-season with Tuesday night matchups.

Girls Tennis

A 4-3 defeat of second-seeded Eagan advanced the No. 3 seed Rosemount into the championship round of the Section 3AA girls tennis tournament.

Individual statistics were not made available. The Irish play No. 1 seed Prior Lake at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Lakeville Lifetime Fitness.

Girls Soccer

Hannah Halterman carried the fourth-seeded Rosemount girls soccer team to victory in its final home game of the year by scoring both Irish goals in a 2-0 defeat of No. 5 Hastings in the opening game of the Section 3AA Tournament. Goalkeeper Kate Mallory made three saves for her sixth shutout of the season.

Rosemount now moves on to play at No. 1 seed Eagan at 5 p.m. Thursday. The Wildcats topped the Irish 4-1 in the regular season finale. The sectional final will be played at Park High School in Cottage Grove on Tuesday, Oct. 18.

Boys Soccer

Five days after falling 3-0 to Eagan in the regular-season finale, the seventh-seeded Rosemount boys soccer team was eliminated from the postseason in a 3-1 loss to the No. 2 seed Wildcats in the opening round of the Section 3AA Tournament.

Individual statistics were not made available. The Irish closed out its 2011 campaign with a 3-11-2 record.

Volleyball

A three-game loss (21-25, 26-28, 22-25) to Burnsville in its final regular-season home match dropped the Rosemount volleyball team to 9-12 overall and 1-7 in the South Suburban Conference.

Individual statistics from the match were not made available. The Irish compete in the Benilde-St. Margaret's Tournament in St. Louis Park on Saturday, then close out their pre-playoff schedule at Woodbury and Lakeville North next Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.

Girls Swimming and Diving

The Rosemount girls swimming and diving team won 87-78 at Burnsville in a South Suburban dual meet on Tuesday.

Individual statistics were not made available. The Irish compete in the True Team Sections this Saturday at Rosemount Middle School.
