The Lightning Struck Twice

The Eastview boys and girls soccer teams claimed Section 3AA championships Tuesday night at Park High School. Both teams will be making return trips to the state tournament.

The Eastview boys and girls soccer teams are returning to the Class AA state tournament.

The Lightning prevailed by 1-0 scores in both Section 3AA championship games on Tuesday night at Park (Cottage Grove) High School.

In the girls title match, top-seeded Eastview (13-3-1 overall) and second-seeded Park played to a scoreless tie through two sudden-death overtime periods. The Lightning earned the victory in an shootout.

In the boys championship match, top-seeded Eastview (12-2-4 overall) and number-two Apple Valley (14-2-3) were scoreless until about five minutes left in regulation, when Jack Teske came up with the only goal of the match.

The Eastview boys lost to Eden Prairie in last year’s Class AA championship game. The girls lost to Centennial in the quarterfinals.

The Eastview teams will learn later this week who they will play in the quarterfinal round, which is scheduled for Oct. 24-26.
