Patch Match: Kids 'n Kinship Seeks Mentors for Youth

Editor's note: This is the first installment in a weekly series where Apple Valley Patch will post the profile of a child on the waiting list for a mentor through Kids 'n Kinship, an Apple Valley-based organization that matches kids in the south metro with adult mentors.

First name: Jake

Age: 8

Interests: He enjoys playing basketball and football, riding his bike, watching scary movies, fishing, swimming and model cars.

Personality: Jake is cheerful, energetic and sweet. He lives with his grandma and is often bored and wanting to get out and do fun things like go to the park, the science museum or Valleyfair.

Goals/Dreams: He will be in third grade in the fall and he is looking forward to taking science in school. He wants to learn how to breakdance.  

Looking For: Jake is looking for an active young couple or individual man to mentor him.

For More Information: Jake is one of 57 children waiting for a mentor through Kids ‘n Kinship, a private nonprofit serving Apple Valley, Burnsville, Eagan, Farmington, Lakeville and Rosemount in Dakota County for 39 years. If you're interested in becoming a mentor, you're invited to attend an information session from 6 to 6:45 p.m. on July 28 at the Burnhaven Library in Burnsville. Mentors can volunteer as individuals, couples, or families for weekly fun and enriching activities at home or in the community on their own schedules.
